Churrasco
(choo-ras-koo) is a Brazilian word for Barbeque. It describes a 300 year
old culinary tradition that originated in the south of Brazil. In the
olden days, "Gauchos" (Southern Brazilian Cowboys) pierced large
pieces of meat on skewers and slowly roasted them over pits of open flames.
Gauchos would prepare a feast for their families while talking about their
adventures on the plains. The roasted meats were brought around to each
family, offering the best of the gaucho's herd. They carved meat at each
table as a show of skill and festive giving. |
